As a part of the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission, Union Ministry of Urban Development in collaboration with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) launched the Swachh Shauchalay campaign on Wednesday, at Gyan Bharati Public School, Saket. One of the brand ambassadors of Swachh Bharat Mission, Suresh Raina, SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Delhi Pradesh BJP President and MP, Manoj Tiwari, and various other senior officials were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Raina said, “We all must realise that maintenance of public toilet is of paramount importance like maintenance of our own toilets at home. Children are generally considered as agents of change; I am sure that they will convey the message to society. We all belong to a family, where we give importance to every minute things. Then we should also care about the cleanliness and hygiene of public toilets.”

The campaign aims to change citizens, specifically public toilet users’ behaviour towards proper usage of public toilets. The main objective of the campaign is to generate a sense of responsibility among common people in order to ensure that public toilets are treated similar to how one would treat one’s toilets at homes — clean and well-maintained.

Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat shared, “The campaign will definitely bring positive results as it has been kicked off by a well-known cricketer. Cricket is the most followed sport in India and therefore has wide outreach. So, it was decided to approach Raina to feature in the campaign.”

There was an open questionnaire session for students with Raina. While interacting with students Raina further said, “It’s a team effort. I change Gracia’s diapers and I have started dumping them in dustbin. The initiative will spread from this school to district and finally in the whole country. The beginning may be with the change in our routine of cleanliness.”
