Unhappy with the response and behaviour of the Delhi Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked them to conduct a crime victimisation survey (CVC) in order to ascertain their response time and quality of policing. The survey would be conducted in a sample size of 2,000 households and 30,000 contacts.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba directed the Delhi Police to carry out the survey. "The survey should focus on the public perception of the functioning of Delhi Police including aspects of woman safety, service level quality of policing, speed or respond etc. The Delhi Police should expedite the procedural formalities and also asked the MHA officials to organise a meeting with Quality Council of India (QCI) and Delhi Police," said Gauba.

The proposed crime victimisation survey will have a sample size of 2000 households and 30,000 contacts through phone. The Delhi Police has been asked to complete the survey in a period of three months and the final report will be available in six months.

The Delhi Police should share the result of the survey in public domain as well. "The report of the survey may also be considered for sharing in public domain to enable other police forces to get similar surveys done in their respective jurisdictions," said Gauba during the review meeting held in last week of October. The minutes of the meeting are in the possession with DNA.

Earlier Home Minister Rajnath Singh during the launch of Raftaar Motorcycles of the Delhi Police had also pointed out that he was unhappy with the behaviour of the Delhi Police towards the public. During the event Singh also mentioned that he had conveyed the same message to the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) as well as the Commissioner of Delhi Police, Amulya Patnaik.

"The kind of behaviour the police should have with the public does not happen and that hurts me. When I don't use any harsh words and so does the LG then what is the issue with behaving properly," Singh had said during the event.
