The Delhi Police have arrested a thief who impersonated a valet parking attendant at a high-end hotel in the Lutyens' Delhi and stole a sedan car on the pretext of delivering it to the owner. The car has been recovered from him.

According to the police, the incident took place on March 11, when the victim Vinay Malik, who is a resident of Wazirpur Industrial Area, visited the Royal Plaza Hotel near Connaught Place. As told by the complainant, the police said, a man approached him as valet parking staff and took his Honda City car keys for parking.

"After visiting the hotel, when Malik came back he asked for his car by giving his car parking slip, the valet parking staff said that this is not their valet parking slip. Malik called up the police and a case was registered. During the initial investigation, CCTV footages of Royal Plaza parking were analysed and the man who had taken the keys of the car was spotted. Further probe revealed the identity of the man who had taken Malik's car as a resident of Puthkalan in Sultanpuri, but he was found to be absconding," said DCP New Delhi.

Following a technical investigation, the suspect's location was traced to Bahadurgarh in Haryana. "Secret informers were put on alert and based on the information, one man identified as Ravi was arrested. At his instance, the stolen Honda City car was recovered from Sector 6 near Bahadurgarh Metro station," the DCP said.

During the interrogation, the accused told the police that on the day of the incident he was in an inebriated state and the hotel staff did not allow him to enter the Royal Plaza hotel, therefore he committed the above-mentioned theft to defame the hotel. "On the day of the incident he was in drunken state and while he was driving stolen Honda city car he met with an accident in Bahadurgarh left the car there and ran away," the police said.
