India captain Rohit Sharma has credited the luxury of fielding three spinners to the presence of Hardik Pandya as a "proper fast bowler" and highlights the tactical advantage India possesses in certain conditions, particularly spin-friendly ones like Chennai.

Rohit Sharma's assertion comes in the backdrop of India's opening campaign of the World Cup 2023 where they will face 5-time World Champions Australia. He emphasized the spin-friendly nature of the Chennai pitch and expressed his confidence in the formidable trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravichandran Ashwin. However, what truly stands out in this situation is the presence of Hardik Pandya as a "proper fast bowler."

"Yeah, I mean that's the luxury we have where we can afford to play three spinners because I don't really consider Hardik Pandya as just a seamer. He's a proper fast bowler who can crank up good speed. So that gives us an advantage."

"That gives us that luxury of fielding three spinners and three seamers as well, you know, so there's a possibility that we can field three spinners on this pitch with three seamers as well, so it gives us that balance, gives us that number eight batting option as well. So yeah, like I said, we will have to come here again tomorrow afternoon and see what the pitch looks like, but yeah, three spinners are definitely an option," Rohit added.

Hardik Pandya's performance in the Asia Cup final, where he picked up three crucial wickets against the defending champions, showcased his proficiency as a fast bowler. Sending batsmen like Dunith Wellalage, Pramod Madushan, and Matheesha Pathirana back to the pavilion in a low-scoring game underlines his ability to make a difference with the ball. Rohit Sharma's perspective on Hardik Pandya challenges conventional cricketing roles. While many may see Pandya primarily as an all-rounder or a scamer who can bat, Rohit views him as a fast bowler who can bowl with genuine pace. This perspective provides the Indian team with a unique advantage, especially in conditions that favor spin.

The luxury of fielding three spinners in the lineup not only adds variety to the bowling attack but also poses a significant challenge to the opposition. Australia, in contrast, finds itself in a less advantageous position as they rely primarily on Adam Zampa as their frontline spinner. Glenn Maxwell, while a useful option, may not provide the same level of spin threat as India's trio of spinners.

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma's observation about fielding three spinners alongside three seamers underscores the flexibility and balance that the presence of Hardik Pandya brings to the team. It not only bolsters the bowling department but also provides depth to the batting lineup, as Hardik Pandya can contribute with the bat as well.
