It was an innings where everything that could go wrong for South Africa, it did and more. They lost a wicket in the second over, on the first ball of the third over. Quinton de Kock got out trying to play his favourite paddle over fine leg off the pacer but could only lob up in the air only to see it crashing down onto his stumps.

The moment the set batters had to take the bowling on, they lost another wicket and all the rebuilding went down the stumps. And, to rub salt into the wounds, it featured a run-out as well, a comical one, which has been a regular in South Africa's collapses, especially in the ICC events.

South Africa lost three wickets in the powerplay, which stemmed the run-flow. Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klassen and David Miller did their best to uplift the scoring but all of them got out at the wrong time and middle of that collapse, Keshav Maharaj slipped while taking a run in the middle of the pitch and was too late to return to the crease.

Maharaj pushed a Pat Cummins delivery to the point fielder, Aiden Markram started running from the other end, the fielder threw the ball towards the non-striker's end and it went to the long-on fielder. Maharaj had run more than half the pitch but Markram was not interested.

Unfortunately for Maharaj, he slipped in the middle of the pitch and was too late to reach the crease as wicket-keeper Matthew Wade almost laid down to reach the stumps with his gloves after collecting a wide throw from Glenn Maxwell.

South Africa could score only 118 runs in the end, with Josh Hazlewood being the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets for just 19 runs including a maiden over.
