As India will be travelling to Sri Lanka in July for three ODIs and five T20Is, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said that the top players will be missing this tour.

Ganguly had confirmed that captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma will not be part of the tour as they will be engaged in a marquee five-match Test series in England.

According to the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP), India are scheduled to play three T20Is in Sri Lanka in July. Last year, India's tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have planned a white ball series for the senior men's team during the month of July where they will play T20 Internationals and ODIs in Sri Lanka," Ganguly was quoted by PTI in an interaction.

Ganguly also said that it will be a different side, which won't have anyone from the outfit that will be in the United Kingdom at that time.

Not just the players but also head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun, as well as batting coach Vikram Rathour, will not be able to assist the players on the tour of Sri Lanka.

So who will be the coach for the new Indian team in Sri Lanka?

It is learnt that former India stalwart Rahul Dravid could in all possibility become the coach of the team. According to a report in Cricbuzz, there are high possibilities that Dravid along with his staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will accompany the Indian team on their Sri Lanka tour.

However, there is no confirmation on this, but it surely is on the cards. Dravid has been coaching and mentoring the U-19 and the India A-side.

Players like Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav are among some who are available for the Sri Lanka tour.

It would be a great opportunity for most of them and make a case for themselves with the Indian selectors keeping the T20 World Cup in mind.

As per a report in Cricinfo, the Indian team will reach Sri Lanka on July 5. Three ODIs will be played on July 13, 16, and 19, followed by T20Is on July 22, 24, and 27. All the matches are set to take place in Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
