Babar Azam isn't the first to do so. Over the years, several Pakistani cricketers have tied the nuptial knot with their cousins.
Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam, who has been one of the few cricketers breaking records is all set to add another feather to his cap.
The superstar batsman has gotten engaged to his paternal cousin. The marriage has been agreed upon between the two families and the couple will get married next year.
While getting married is surely a happy moment for many, but Babar's international fans would be a little surprised seeing the cricketer getting ready to enter the wedlock within his extended family.
However, he isn't the first to do so. Over the years, several Pakistani cricketers have tied the nuptial knot with their cousins. Not just them, but the list also includes the former swashbuckling opener of the Indian cricket team, Virender Sehwag.
Virender Sehwag: The most famous Indian cricketer, Sehwag, had reportedly married his distant relative Aarti Ahlawat on April 22, 2004. In fact, Aarti had confirmed this in an interview and said that theirs was a love marriage within their own family. It all began when one of Sehwag's cousin had got married to Aarti's aunt. The two dated for 5 years before tying the nuptial knot. Sehwag was only 21 years old when he had proposed to Aarti. They are now the parents of two boys, Aryavir and Vedant.
Shahid Afridi: The former Pakistan skipper had married his maternal cousin, Nadia on October 22, 2000. Afridi was only 20 years old when he got married. The couple have five daughters and one of his daughters, Aqsa, is now set to marry Pakistani cricketer Shaheen Afridi.
Mustafizur Rahman: The Bangladeshi bowler had married Samia Parvin, his maternal cousin in 2019. Samia was said to be studying psychology at the Dhaka University when the two got married after the conclusion of the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Mosaddek Hossain: Another Bangladesh cricketer Hossain married his cousin Sharmin Samira in 2012 when he was only 16 years old. The cricketer has since been in the news but for the wrong reasons. The cricketer was accused of harassing his wife and the couple has since separated.
Saeed Anwar: Pakistan's Anwar had become famous for scoring 194 against India in 1997. He was, however, married by then to his cousin Lubna in 1996. In 2001, a tragedy struck the Anwar family when their 3-year-old daughter passed away due to illness. Anwar hung up his boots after the 2003 ICC World Cup.
