Rohit Sharma has sure given a birthday tribute to Virender Sehwag as he joins him in the elite club.

The Hitman became only the 4th batsman to hit a double hundred in Test and ODI cricket when the newly-promoted Test opener got to the landmark in the ongoing Test between India and South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday.

Rohit joins Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag and Chris Gayle. Rohit has scored 3 double hundreds in ODI cricket and holds the record for the highest score in the 50-over international format -- 264.

Rohit got to his double ton in 249 balls, after hitting 28 boundaries and 4 sixes. In fact, Rohit went into lunch 1 run short of his maiden double hundred in Tests.

Rohit got to his double century by hooking Lungi Ngidi for a six after lunch. Rohit has thus become the 1st batsman to score a 200-plus score in Tests after scoring double hundreds in ODI cricket.

He is also only the 5th Indian opener after Vinoo Mankad, Budhi Kunderan, Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag to score 500 runs in a Test series.

Rohit had earlier missed out on his maiden double hundred in his 1st Test in Visakhapatnam. He was dismissed for 176 in the 1st innings.

The opener has also become the 3rd Indian batsman after Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli to score a double hundred in the ongoing series against South Africa.
