IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant tests positive for COVID-19, to remain in isolation till THIS date

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the player, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 8 and will remain in isolation till Sunday, July 18 when he undergoes the RT-PCR test again. The team reassembles on Thursday after a 20-day break following the World Test Championship (WTC) final in Durham ahead of the three-day warm-up game. Rishabh Pant won't be travelling with the team.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, the BCCI sources confirmed that Pant had tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. Pant is symptomatic currently and is under quarantine at a relative's place in England.

"He is in quarantine at an acquaintance's place and won't be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday," the source said.

Speaking further on the matter, BCCI Vice-president Rajiv Shukla told PTI that one player had tested positive and is under isolation for the last eight days and wasn't staying in the hotel with any other members of the team.

With the recent COVID-19 scare in England, which affected the Eoin Morgan-led side and seven members of the squad had tested positive, the BCCI secretary had sent a mail to the Indian contingent warning of the recent rise in cases in the country and to avoid going to crowded places.

According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, Rishabh Pant has been affected by the Delta variant of the coronavirus, which has caused the recent rise in cases.
