I mean, obviously, he is sick. I feel for him. But in terms of me being a human being first, I want him to get well. I'm not thinking solely as the captain, pondering whether Gill will play tomorrow. No, I want him to recover, he's a young guy with a fit body, so he'll recover quickly," Rohit Sharma stated on the eve of their World Cup opener in Chennai.

India will certainly miss Gill, who is the leading run-scorer in ODIs this year, amassing 1230 runs at an average of 72.35, including four of his five centuries this year, with a strong record against Australia.

Rohit Sharma also highlighted the positive atmosphere in the dressing room ahead of the World Cup opener, with the team eager to make a strong impression in the home tournament, India enters the World Cup as Asia Cup champions, having dominated the continental tournament and having recently defeated Australia 2-1 in an ODI series.

"Yeah, the mood is pretty good, as it is before the start of every big tournament. We've prepared very well for this tournament, so we are quite confident in our skills," Rohit added. He also clarified Gill's situation, stating, "Everybody's fit. Gill is not 100%, but he's sick. There's no injury concern. Gill is not feeling well. We are monitoring him on a daily basis. So, we're going to give him every chance to recover and see how he feels. So, he's not ruled out yet."
