Mahindra Lifespace in race to build new city in Mauritius

Mahindra Lifespace Developers, the real estate arm of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group, has been shortlisted by the Mauritius Government to build an entire new city on the island.

Mahindra Lifespace Developers, the real estate arm of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group, has been shortlisted by the Mauritius Government to build an entire new city on the island, a top company official said.

"The Mauritius Government is looking at building a new city and we are one of the corporates selected for the project," MLDL's managing director and CEO, Anita Arjundas, told PTI on the sidelines of a conference here today.

However, Arjundas did not divulge any further details as the company was still in talks with the Mauritius Government.

"We will not be able to share any further details on the project as discussions are still on. Things should get finalised in a few months time. The (Mauritius) Government is planning to build a new city that will house the administrative capital of Mauritius," Arjundas said.

Asked about the company's recent launch of `Aqualily', a premium resident community being developed within Mahindra World City in Chennai, Arjundas said MLDL would be launching the same in other metros and major cities soon.

Aqualily is the company's high-end residential homes with floor space ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 sqft. Aqualily is being developed by Mahindra Residential Developers Ltd., a subsidiary of Mahindra Lifespace Developers, and Arch Capital, an Ayala Group company with a cumulative investment of over Rs 2,500-crore but which would go up to Rs7,500-crore.

On other projects, Arjundas said the company was also comimg up with three affordable housing projects, but declined to reveal their locations. MLDL is also carrying out projects at Goregaon and Bhandup in Mumbai and Pune.
