Director Vivek Agnihotri is known for his frank, candid, unfiltered conversations. His movies such as The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files were lauded for their sheer storytelling, and brave attempt to ask questions and raise issues that weren't addressed before. In a recent conversation, Vivek said that Bollywood has become dumb because of their uneducated, dumb stars.

Vivek started his journey as a commercial filmmaker and directed movies such as Chocolate (2005), Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007) and Hate Story (2012). Then he became an independent filmmaker with Buddha in a Traffic Jam (2014). Vivek has 'mentally resigned' from Bollywood. In a recent conversation at Unscripted podcast, Vivek revealed that he quit commercial cinema because the stars he worked with were 'not educated' about the world, and in a way, they were insulting his intelligence. Vivek said, "I am not saying it arrogantly, but rather I am telling the truth. I started feeling that the stars I work with, are not educated and have no idea about the world. I am far more intelligent than them and my worldview is definitely better than theirs. So their dumbness was pulling me down. They are so dumb that they pull you down with them."

Vivek further opened up about Bollywood becoming dumb because of the stars involved in it. "Why is Indian cinema so dumb? Bollywood films are dumb because of their stars. The stars are so dumb that they make every director and writer become dumb. They assume the audience is very dumb." Vivek asserted that as a writer and director, his film’s worth is equal to the star of the film. Sharing his reason behind resigning from commercial cinema, Vivek said, "The film is never known because of me, the film is always known because of the dumb actor. So I resigned mentally from Bollywood."

Sharing his idea of reinventing himself as filmmaker, and added, "The audience is very intelligent, if you provide them with intelligent material, they will consume it. For example, there is a bookstore, they sell playboy and they also sell Bhagavad Gita. The Gita sales are lower when compared to Playboy. So I came out of this whole idea of ‘selling’ and I totally reinvented myself." On the work front, VIvek will soon bring his next directorial The Vaccine War, which is scheduled for September 28 release.
