Miss USA 1995 Chelsi Smith, who went on to become Miss Universe 1995, succeeding Sushmita Sen at the international beauty pageant, reportedly died at the age of 45. Smith was battling cancer and finally lost her life to it. 

Bollywood actres Sushmita Sen, who had crowned her Miss Universe as her successor, took to her Twitter account to mourn the loss of her "beautiful friend". She shared a throwback picture of the crowning moment and wrote, "“I loved her smile & that generous spirit!!! Rest in peace my beautiful friend @Chelsi_Smith #MissUniverse1995 Dugga Dugga.” 

The news of Smith's demise comes as a shock to her fans and near and dear ones. Shanna Moakler, who stood runner-up at the 1995 pageant also shared her grief at the loss of the beautiful soul that Smith was. Moakler wrote, "“I am heartbroken. Godspeed beautiful. You were my friend and a light. I love and will miss you more then you will never know. The epitome of a Queen.”

Those who're uninitiated, Chelsi Smith's first major beauty pageant was in the year 1994 - Miss Texas USA Pageant. Smith was the semifinalist at the do. She then went on to compete at Miss Galvenston County US Pageant and even won the title. She succeeded Sushmita Sen as the Miss Universe in the year 1995.
