Akshay Kumar's Gold has finally crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark on its 13th day to become the actor's ninth film to enter the coveted club.
The film, which hit the theatres on Independence Day, has earned a whopping Rs. 100.45 crore.
Film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to make the announcement, writing, "#Gold crosses Rs. 100 cr mark on Day 13... [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: Rs. 100.45 cr. India biz... Akshay Kumar's ninth film in Rs. 100 cr Club."
In the flick, the Pad Man star plays the role of Tapan Das, a character which is based on the man who led India to win gold at the 1948 London Olympics.
Gold marked the debut of TV sensation Mouni Roy on the big screen. The sports drama also boasts of an ensemble cast including Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh, and Sunny Kaushal, among others.
Housefull 2 (2012), Rowdy Rathore (2012), Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), Airlift (2016), Housefull 3 (2016), Rustom (2016), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) are the other eight movies of the star.
Sonakshi Sinha's Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, on the other hand, collected Rs 13.83 cr over the weekend. There was a slight dip in box office numbers compared to the Friday opening of Rs 2.07 cr.
Trade analyst Adarsh tweeted, "#HappyPhirrBhagJayegi stays STRONG on Mon... Decline on Mon [vis-à-vis Fri]: 24.07%... Fri 2.70 cr, Sat 4.03 cr, Sun 5.05 cr, Mon 2.05 cr. Total: ₹ 13.83 cr. India biz.
Gold is the eighth movie of 2018 to cross the Rs 100 cr mark. The year began with the controversial Padmaavat reaching the said club first. Followed by Sonu Ke Tittu Ki Sweety,
Ajay Devgn's Raid, then Baaghi 2 in March, Alia Bhatt's Raazi, in June it was Salman Khan's Race 3 and Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju.
