The action-packed drama Gadar 2, headlined by Sunny Deol, is unstoppable at the box office as the film continues its rampage after taking the second-biggest opening of Rs 40.10 crore for a Bollywood film this year, only after Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which collected Rs 55 crore on its first day of theatrical release.

As per the early estimates shared by the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk.com, Gadar 2 collected Rs 43 crore on Saturday taking the two-day total to Rs 83.10 crore. This has made it Sunny Deol's highest-grossing film in his entire career of 40 years, eclipsing the first part Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which collected Rs 77 crore in its entire theatrical run 22 years back.

Also starring Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, and Manish Wadhwa, Gadar 2 is directed by Anil Sharma who helmed the first part also. Just as the 2001 blockbuster made several box office records, the sequel has also wreaked havoc at the ticket windows with theatres running housefull shows round the clock.

In 2001, Gadar clashed with Aamir Khan's Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India and both turned out to be blockbusters. The latter even went on to become the third Indian film to get nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1998).

This year too, the action-packed sequel released alongside another sequel, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi's OMG 2. The satirical comedy drama, which is the spiritual sequel of the 2012 hit OMG - Oh My God!, argues strongly for the inclusion of sex education in the Indian schools and receieved extremely positive reviews collecting over Rs 25 crore in its first two days.
