Is Osama bin Laden really dead? He certainly is but the conspiracy theories claiming otherwise are alive and kicking. Even after the US government declared him dead, conspiracy theorists have doubted the authenticity of the news. Most people are skeptical about the news as there had been rumours about his death in the past too.

The news dished out by the US intelligence need not be completely true as they did not have any proof of death. The pictures that were leaked are said to be photoshopped, making it harder to trust the reports. To gauge public opinion, DNA spoke to some Bangaloreans. What came out were, at best, diverse opinions. While a few believed the media reports, some others weren’t sure if they should believe the news blindly.

“I don’t believe that Osama is dead. There is no proper evidence. They claim to have buried the body in the Arabian Sea without releasing any photograph,” businessman Hitesh Kumar said.
Prem Kumar felt the same and said it could well be a stunt by US President Barack Obama.

Sendil Kumar, CEO of Super Tech Industry in Coimbatore, on the other hand agreed with the US’ claims.

Homemaker Samitha Ganguly believed the most-wanted terrorist was dead because the news was not leaked by any one newspaper or channel; it was widely reported in the world media.

“There is no question of whether to believe it or not because when TV channels and newspapers report something, it has to be factual and we, common people, believe in it,” said Shabeer Ahmed, an auto-driver.

“It’s a question mark because there are two versions and I don’t know which one to believe. I personally don’t think Osama is dead. If he is, it’s good for the world,” said Ravi, a private company employee.

“What was the hurry to bury him? The US elections are coming up so it might be a rumour,” said Srividya Mohan, professional.
While homemaker Rashmi thought it was ‘serious news’ and that he was indeed dead, Krushna said, “It is a cooked up story leaked by the US intelligence. I do not believe it; the big question being why they buried him so soon. There is some kind of conspiracy in it.”

“We haven’t seen what has happened, therefore, when the journalists report an issue we have to believe in it,” said Amanulla, a businessman.

It appears, Osama, in his death too, evokes only extreme reactions.
