Ahmedabad Shopping Festival eyes Guinness Record with 36x20-foot jute bag

The mascot for Ahmedabad Shopping Festival (ASF) is all set to create a Guinness record for the largest jute bag ever made. The jute bag representing the buyer, will be 36-foot tall and 20-feet wide.

Organisers feel that the size of mascot will generate interest in the masses and give a boost to retailers for luring customers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the mascot during the inauguration of the festival on January 17. Jayendra Tanna, president of Vibrant Gujarat Shopping Festival Organizing Federation said that the mascot is undergoing final touches now. “A representative of Guinness Book of World Records will be present during unveiling of the mascot. We are sure that the record will be created,” said Tanna. A source said that at present, the record for largest jute bag stands for a bag 20-feet tall and 16-feet wide.

Stakes are high for organisers of ASF and they want it to be talk of town for all the 12-days beginning January 17. ASF aims to revive offline shopping, which has taken a severe toll because of online shopping. Local shops will offer discounts. Till now about 15,400 registrations have been made.
