‘Chaos 2010’ will teach the people of the city how to calculate carbon foot prints and what measures must be adopted to contribute in cutting down carbon emission.
After taking a series of initiatives towards better understanding and awareness of environmental issues, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) seems determined not to give up chanting the hymn of going green. In its latest initiative in this direction, the institute will adopt environmental issues and the spread of their awareness as one of the core objectives of their annual cultural festival, ‘Chaos’.
‘Chaos 2010’ will teach the people of the city how to calculate carbon foot prints and what measures must be adopted to contribute in cutting down carbon emission. The three-day cultural extravaganza will have a particular venue that will be reserved for conducting these interactive sessions with visitors to the culfest. Research students of the institute and companies specializing in this field will play key roles in conducting these sessions and workshops.
IIMA student Chitranshu Mathur, who is also the co-ordinator of the event, said, “With the Copenhagen environmental summit having been held lately and the topic of environmental issues still hot in people’s mind, it is the perfect time for us to participate and contribute our bit to the issue.”
Another student of IIMA, Nisseem Nabar, added, “Chaos is such a big event with a very large footfall. It becomes a very good platform for conveying the message to the people.”
The three days of ‘Chaos 2010’ will have many environmental awareness posters and also screening of documentary films related to environmental topics.
The institute’s students will not only teach the people about what to do but will also set an example by practicing it themselves. The event will adopt various means to cut down on carbon foot prints. Mathur said, “We will adopt various eco friendly practices while arranging and conducting the events including cutting down the habit of taking paper printouts, re-utilization of materials, discouraging people from throwing around plastic wastes and so on.”
