US: Massive earthquake hits Alaska's Anchorage

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolted Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, on Friday, according to United States Geological Survey. However, as per the US National Weather Service, a quake of 7.2 magnitude, Sputnik reported.

No official information on casualties has been reported yet.

According to US Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, the seismic activity caused severe damage to the roads, bridges and water pipes in the city. According to the scientific agency, the seismic activity was centred about 7 miles (12 kilometres) north of Anchorage.

Soon after the earthquake, a tsunami warning was announced in coastal areas of Cook Inlet and southern Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, which was later cancelled.
