The Ranji Trophy quarterfinal between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is turning out to be one shocking contest. Being played at a neutral venue in Visakhapatnam, the tie promises to churn out a sure-shot outright result.

After being dismissed for a paltry 88 in the first innings on Day 1 of the match, not many would've bet their money on Karnataka having any chance of victory. The Vinay Kumar-led side, however, managed to shoot out Tamil Nadu for a miserly 152, thus not conceding too big a first innings lead.

Their comeback, though, came much after their Day 1 wounds were peppered with salt by none other than Tamil Nadu's very own Ravichandran Ashwin.

India's ace off-spinner, who was only recently declared the ICC Cricketer and Test Cricketer of the Year, is popular for always being on the top of his game. The No. 1 ranked all-rounder in the world is known to have a sound cricket mind, someone who out-thinks his opponents at all times.

Naturally then, when his state side Tamil Nadu were in a dominating position in their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Karnataka on Friday morning, it was impossible for Ashwin to turn a blind eye to what was happening. Even though he isn't participating in the match himself due to the strenuous schedule of the Test team, Ashwin's Team India mates KL Rahul and Karun Nair have turned out for their team Karnataka. Surprisingly though, both batsmen, who scored heavily in the recently-concluded fifth Test against England, got out cheaply in the first innings of the match.

Bringing some good-old dressing room banter out in the open, Ashwin decided to get on Twitter and remind Nair of what was his team's position in the match. '@karun126 enna thambi (brother, dude) Karnataka lost the toss.4 for 1 KL back in the hut.I will connect with you like I promised after the game,' wrote Ashwin.

Here's his tweet:

It wiil be interesting to wait and watch how this topsy-turvy match pans out, and whether Nair has a comeback up his sleeve for Ashwin.
