On Tuesday, the Mumbai Police contacted the complainant and lodged First Information Report (FIR) with its BKC police station against Dr H.Muthurajan, former associate professor for Department of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The action from the police comes after DNA had reported the incident on Saturday.
DNA had reported about the Women Development Cell (WDC) of the University of Mumbai who had found Associate Professor Dr H. Muthurajan of Department of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology guilty of alleged sexual harassment following the complaint of 28-year-old woman employee. Dr. H Muthurajan had allegedly molested the 28 year old woman at the Nanocenter of the university. As per the woman's complaint he had also invited sexual favors from the victim.
The BKC police registered the case under sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354(A)(Molestation), 354(B) (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 509(Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506(Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against Dr. H Muthurajan.
"Earlier, the Crime Against Women Cell of the Mumbai Crime branch had only recorded my statement but now the police have contacted me and got the FIR registered.The police have assured me that they will soon arrest the man. ", said the 28-year-old survivor.
A senior police officer from BKC police station said, "We will collect the video from the victim which will be used as an evidence in the case. We will soon make the arrest in the case. "
