BMC to inspect computer labs in its schools monthly

After receiving complaints from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) education committee members, a few months back, that in many BMC schools computers were lying unused, the department now takes an update on the maintenance of all the electronic gadgets from the BMC schools every month. Last year, the BMC had made a provision of Rs 8 crore in BMC education budget for primary and secondary computer labs.

Despite making a provision of crores of rupees for computer labs, the BMC education department failed to inspect the schools whether using computers or not. After receiving the complaints last year, the BMC education officer immediately issued a circular to all administrative officers of BMC schools to gather the information on computer labs, digital classroom by visiting the schools and provide the details.

The BMC education committee member and Yuva Sena core committee member Sainath Durge, said, "After our complaint that computers in many schools were not installed and were gathering dust. Education officer promised of taking an update every month from the schools about not only the computer labs but also other electronic devices installed in the BMC schools."

Mahesh Palkar, BMC education officer, said, "We have now made a mobile app where we get an update from all the schools whether their electronic devices are working or not including computers. If they are not working then the school principals have to just make a complaint on that app and immediately the service will be provided to them from the vendor and maintenance will be done of the electronic device such as computers or central sound system etc."
