Shifted to the operation theatre at 8 am on Thursday, 55-year-old Chhaya Meher was moved to third floor's general ward at 6.30 pm in JJ Hospital. She is one of the victims who were shot at Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district while on her way back from the Amarnath Yatra on Monday night.

Chhaya had to undergo an operation to remove the bullet which got stuck on her right hand. She was brought to JJ Hospital on Wednesday evening.

Nilesh, her son, said: "She was admitted in a Dahanu-based private hospital on Tuesday evening. Since the hospital does not have facilities to conduct this operation, they referred her to a Mumbai-based government hospital."

Speaking about the incident, Chhaya said, "For the first few minutes, we did not understand what was happening. The firing sounded like bursting of crackers. One terrorist tried to get inside the bus to shoot us, but luckily, the man sitting beside the driver's seat kicked him hard and locked the door. I was sitting beside Nirmala Thakur, who died in the incident."

"She spoke to me half an hour before the incident. We were shocked after learning about it. We called the driver and he gave us the news that our mother was safe but had sustained minor injuries. We were hopeful that my mother-in-law Usha Sonkar, who went with her, will also be safe; but I lost her," Nilesh added.
