Eight out of 10 people are unhappy with their jobs, but they’re too scared to change because they think they’ll be worse off, a new survey has revealed.

Almost seven out of 10 admit they are in their current career for the money and not the love of what they do, the Daily Express reported.

Over half said that they have skills or hobbies outside the workplace which they want to exploit, according to a study for the video learning website Learncliki.com.

In fact 63% of workers feel so depressed at their current career choice that they look on in envy at family and friends who, seemingly, have productive and rewarding jobs.

And 66% admit they feel trapped in their current career by the money they earn, helpless but unable to jump ship because they and their family rely too heavily on their income.

The most popular choice of alternative career would be to serve in one of the three emergency services, according to the survey of 2,000 workers across the UK.

Working in computers, the financial industry or in the legal sector are also popular choices.

Some 52% admit they still harbour a desire to fulfil their childhood dream in a working sense, though many admit it is unlikely to make them money or become a realistic career.
