Dravyavati river revival inspires Punjab

Officials seek project details from Jaipur Development Authority

Revived from near extinction, Jaipur’s own river Dravyavati has come to draw attention of government and administration from other states. The most recent in the list has been the interest from state of Punjab, on Sunday officials from the state visited the project and inquired upon its details, in coming days more officials from Punjab are scheduled to visit the site. 

“The project has been an achievement of infrastructure development and water conservation. Many other states are now trying to benefit from the experiences of the riverfront development,” says an officer at Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). 

Accompanied with officials from JDA, the senior Punjab government officials visited the Bird Park, Landscape garden and experience center of the Dravyavati riverfront and also observed upon a presentation of the project. 

Dravyavati originating and concluding in Jaipur has been a tradition source of water to large part of the district. Decades of encroachment had reduced the river to a drain before intervention from judiciary ordered its revival. The project has since come up as a perennial water with huge public space along its banks running through 47 kilometers of urban area. 

According to officials, the project has come to draw attention of administrators from other states on account of its design feature as a flood drain, its water recycling capacities that include five sewerage plants of total 170 MLD capacity. These along with three theme gardens, parallel walkways and digital technology interfaces has come to compliment the city’s advancement.

The project has also been the largest manpower management task ever witness by Jaipur. Employing more than 7000 workers and officials during its peak days, the project had much of its targets achieved on a short tenure.
