The Chief Minister urban welfare scheme is expected to last till swearing in of the next state assembly as urban development department extends the scheme’s tenure. The “Mukhyamantri Shehri Jan Kalyan Yojna” has been extended by the urban development department to last till December 31, 2018.

“It has been a demand of the general public that the duration of the scheme be extended so as its benefit can reach out to more people. It’s in consideration of the demand that the scheme is being extended,” states the extension order.

Under the scheme, the local bodies will hold camps in their respective areas to provide services. To commence in May last year, it is already is on an extension that was to end in September, however, it gets extended again in a couple of month’s advance.

The department has instructed all the urban bodies to submit plans regarding the land deed allotments by August 15. The distribution and relaxations shall continue even as the state goes for assembly elections in the last quarter of the year. The ruling party does not see a conflict of interest either.

“Our aim is to provide relief to the public and that’s the purpose of the scheme. After the current extension there shall be no camps held, however, the benefits of the scheme will be available at offices of the local body,” says urban development minister, Shrichand Kriplani.

The urban development department order for extension of the ‘scheme incentives’ has come in advance of notification by the finance and personnel department. The department officials state the orders of the revenue and finance department to be ‘under the process of notification’ and has asked the subordinate bodies to draft and submit an action plan accordingly. Even if the ‘relaxations’ under the scheme get upheld by the imposition of ‘model code of conduct’, distribution of the land deeds will come as a gift for several of residents of colonies that are yet to be regularised.
