Woman sets self on fire, husband held in Ahmedabad

A woman committed suicide in the city after she was allegedly harassed by her husband and in-laws.

The victim Priya Dantani committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her residence. She died on the spot.

The Sabarmati police have registered a case against her husband Jagdish Dantani, mother-in-law Prema Dantani and sister-in-law. The police investigation has revealed that Priya had been married since three years, but was unable to give birth to a child. 

She was constantly subjected to mental and physical torture by her husband and in-laws. On the basis of Priya's mother Hasumati Dantani's complaint, the Sabarmati police have arrested all the three accused. In another incident, a shop keeper identified as Kalpin Nayak attempted suicide at his shop by consuming poison on Wednesday evening. Nayak is being treated in the VS hospital.
However his condition is said to be critical.

The Ellisbridge police have lodged an attempt to suicide case against Nayak.

The police have found a suicide note wherein Nayak has stated that as he was suffering from financial crisis, he took this extreme step.

The police have recorded his cousin's statement, which confirms the fact that Nayak was in heavy debts.

In another case lodged at Vastrapur police station, a cable operator and a resident of Vastrapur, Nilesh Chauhan committed suicide on Thursday afternoon, by jumping in Vastrapur Lake. The police have recovered his body from the lake.
