Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will observe a fast for the Sadbhavna Mission District Abhiyan at Navsari in south Gujarat October 20. Also, as announced earlier by the opposition Congress party, district-level Congress leaders and Members of Parliament will stage a fast against the CM’s at Navsari.

Gujarat government spokespersons, ministers Jay Narayan Vyas and Saurabh Patel, said that Modi has been receiving a stream of letters, greetings and blessings from prominent citizens, spiritual and religious leaders expressing their willingness to partake in the mission.

Navsari collector Sandhya Bhullar said, “With around 40,000 people expected to visit the fast venue, we have made adequate arrangements for drinking water and sanitation facilities at the ground. A 24-minute film on Navsari district and its contribution to Gujarat prepared by the district information department will also be screened. There are exhibitions set up on the theme of Panchshakti achievements and about Gujarat and Navsari district.”

Bhullar further said, “The CM will inaugurate a painting exhibition by students at Navsari’s famous Amalsad Kala Vidyalaya. The Parsi community will put up a wall painting at Sadbhavna Corner.”

Meanwhile, the Congress party will be staging their fast at a venue near the station. Dr Tushar Chaudhary, Union Minister of state for road transport and highways will also join the fast against Modi’s Sadbhavana endeavour.

Chaudhary said, “Fasts are generally observed by people who have suffered injustice from the government. Even today, women workers from Mid-Day-Meal programme in the state and security personnel of Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GISF) are on fast to get justice from the state government. Why is the government organising a fast despite all the injustice done to the people? What message does it want to give with such fasts?” “We are expecting more than 5,000 people at our fast,” he said.
