The statement comes at a time when the US has put Pakistan under pressure to withdraw its support to terrorists
David H Petraeus, a former director general with US’s CIA rejected any notion of Indian state-sponsored terrorism.
Petraeus’s statements, which were first reported by the Indian Express, come at a time when the United States has been pressurising Pakistan to not support terrorists.
Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov on Thursday created a stir by confirming that his country was supplying military equipment to Pakistan and also accusing the US-led NATO forces for helping the dreaded ISIS fighters to set up base in Northern Afghanistan. He was joined by former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, who said the US has to explain the rise of ISIS and extremism, calling it a result of its relationship with Pakistan. Read that copy here
On January 1, US President Donald Trump lashed out at Pakistan, saying they will not be given funds any more. Trump lashed out at Pakistan on Twitter and accused them of fooling US politicians in the past. Trump said that he would stop it. Trump often has made broad statements which hasn't resulted in coherent policy decisions. However, Trump's tweet about Pakistan is in sync with White House's increasing hardening of stance about India's arch rival.
“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!” Trump had tweeted then.

More recently, newly appointed US Envoy to India Kenneth Juster said that the United States would not tolerate cross-border terrorism.
On January 11, in his first public speech after taking over as the ambassador in November, Juster talked about robust Indo-US partnership in key areas of defence and counter-terrorism and pitched for enhanced trade ties while describing India as a "net provider" of security in the Indo-Pacific region.
He said President Donald Trump and other US leaders have been clear that they will not "tolerate cross-border terrorism or terrorist safe havens anywhere"."As part of this effort, last month we launched the first-ever US-India Counterterrorism Designations Dialogue.
