Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister R Dorakkannu has stoked a controversy by threatening to "cut off" the tongue of anyone who speaks ill about the AIADMK government in the state.
Addressing a public meeting at Thanjavur on Tuesday condemning the DMK and Congress for helping the Sri Lankan Army to kill Tamils in the island nation, he said that some leaders were calling this government as the "gutkha government and a corrupt government".
"If you speak ill of this government, we will cut your tongues off," he said. He said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami government was implementing the policies of Amma (J Jayalalithaa).

Union Minister of State for Finance and senior BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan dared Dorakkannu to cut off his tongue as he too had criticised the AIADMK government in the state.
"He has said that he will cut off the tongue of anyone criticising the government. I had also criticised the state government. Will he cut off my tongue too?" he asked. He said that he being a minister should not speak in such a manner.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan said that if a minister speaks like this, persons like MLA Karunas and BJP leader H Raja who were facing police cases for their recent abusive speech will get emboldened. "Both Karunas and Raja were not holding any posts but Dorakkannu is a minister. He should not forget that and he should speak responsibly," he said.
