Getting rejuvenated with the entry of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in active politics, the Congress now has started working on devising a strategy to keep BJP's top election brass busy in some core areas.
After giving Priyanka Gandhi Vadra the responsibility of Eastern Uttar Pradesh which is home to Lok Sabha constituencies of BJP heavyweights — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, the party has now decided to utilise her charisma in PM Modi's home state Gujarat too.
Priyanka Gandhi will be attending Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet in Ahmedabad on February 26. Sources said, Priyanka also has plans to visit Prime Minister's constituency Varanasi and Adityanath's Gorakhpur. The BJP had lost the Gorakhpur seat to a SP candidate in last year's by elections.
"Rahulji and other party leaders understand that Priyankaji has the strength to inspire party cadres and make them believe in their strength. Even during the peak of Narendra Modi wave, she had pulled out victory in Amethi and Rae Bareli in 2014. This time she is going to make her presence felt on a broader canvas and with more strength," a senior Congress leader said.
By making Priyanka concentrate on few core areas and seats, the Congress is hoping to make the going tough for key BJP leaders like PM Modi and Adityanath, and force them to concentrate more in their home constituency to ensure victory at the cost of other areas.
As the election campaign hots up in coming days, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to frequently travel Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
