Following the recent incident of a Nigerian being tied and brutally thrashed by mob for an alleged theft, Indians living in Nigeria are now concerned as they say the public broadcast of such incidents sparks threat and tension for them on foreign land. In March this year, following a series of such untoward incidents against Nigerians, 'The Indian Cultural Association', in Nigeria had written to the high commission of India in Nigeria, drawing their attention towards irresponsible conduct of media in such incidents.

As DNA spoke to Indians living in Nigeria over the repercussions, they said that the community is concerned, even though thy have not been mistreated in this manner so far. Gulrez Singh, an Indian origin man based in Port Harcourt in the southern part of Nigeria, said this incident is even worse than the last time a Nigerian man was assaulted in public and no one came for his rescue. "Many of my friends are still trying to process what we saw in the video. But this crossed the line, in my opinion. Something needs to be done," Singh said.
