Geeta, the deaf-mute Indian woman who accidentally crossed over to Pakistan around 15 years ago,  will be back in the country on October 26, 2015, said Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup

Speaking to media, Swarup said, "On October 26, Geeta will be back to India with five members of Edhi Foundation, who will be treated as state guests."

Swarup further added, "We will do a DNA test to establish conclusive proof of relation with the family Geeta has identified. If the test is positive, we will hand over Geeta to the family. Else we have identified institutions where she can be taken care of."

23-year-old Geeta was adopted by the Edhi Foundation's Bilquees Edhi and lives with her in Karachi.

Geeta has identified her father, step-mother and siblings from a photograph sent to her by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The family reportedly lives in Bihar. She was reportedly just 7 or 8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers 15 years ago at Lahore railway station.

Police took her to Edhi Foundation in Lahore and later she was shifted to Karachi.

Branding the entire story as 'extraordinary'  Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr TCA Raghavan had asserted that it would be beautiful to see Geeta re-discover her old links. The Pakistani security forces had found Geeta near the eastern border with India in 2001. Since then, she has been in the care of the Edhi Foundation.
