A fire broke out at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar on Monday. As per preliminary reports, four fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire is still being doused as this copy is being written. No casualties have been reported.

Officials told DNA that a short circuit was the main reason behind the fire in the building. Reports also say that the building that caught fire was a ground-plus-one floor structure that was the first building in the GIFT complex.

Until a year back, all the other offices functioning out of GIFT complex operated from this building, but after newer structures were constructed, offices began moving out and this building became a venue for meetings.

Officials also told DNA that due to the moving of offices, there was no data loss. However, there were some old files stacked up in some of the rooms that have reportedly been brought out of the building.

More details are awaited.

From January to February 2, 179 fire emergency calls were received by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) department, which is around five to six calls per day.

Of the total number of calls, there was seven major incidents in Ahmedabad, where more than eight firefighting vehicles sent to control the situation. Fortunately, no casualty was reported in any of the incidents, but one incident saw two women suffer minor burn injuries.

A fire officer told DNA at the time of this report that the department's control received anything between 90 and 110 fire-related calls, but the calls had doubled in the past month. Apart from that, there were seven incidents where the situation went worse and more than eight fire-vehicles and more than 50 firemen were sent to control the situation.
