Delhi markets to remain open despite rise in COVID-19 cases

CAIT announced on Sunday that markets in Delhi will remain open for the time being after it held a meeting of 275 local business leaders from Delhi via video conferencing.

CAIT, in a statement, stated that it was satisfied with the decisions taken after the meeting that took place between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to assess the COVID-19 situation in Delhi earlier today.

 National General Secretary of CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal said that the steps taken by Home Minister Amit Shah to tackle the grim coronavirus situation in Delhi and improve the medical infrastructure have instilled hope in the traders of Delhi.

However, if the situation worsens, alternate options like the opening of shops with odd-even arrangements or opening four days a week and keeping shops closed for the remaining three days or opening shops on alternate days will be explored.

After the meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan over the COVID-19 situation in the national capital on Sunday, Home Minister Amit Shah charted out measures to help Delhi contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Shah stated that the Centre will provide 500 railway coaches to Delhi in view of the shortage of beds for COVID-19 patients, increase testing, strengthen contact mapping system to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the national capital. 

According to the Delhi government, by July 15, the number of coronavirus patients in Delhi can be more than 2.25 lakhs. By July 31, COVID-19 cases is expected to reach 5.50 lakh.

As of now, the number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital are 38958, with 14945 recoveries and 1271 deaths.
