For a film like this, you cannot afford to clash with any other film...
After a rather long wait... Okay, very long wait, release date for Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's Jagga Jasoos has been announced.. We have lost count of how many times the film had been pushed, postponed or reshot.
The principal shooting has finally ended and Anurag Basu is done filming his much ambitious musical. On the other hand, Disney has finally announced the release date, July 14 and we are guessing this is the final word now. But after so many hiccups, we think that this date might not be the perfect one for the release of a film like this! Well, here's why!
Why clash?
It's been a huge wait for fans. And now when they are finally coming, Jagga Jasoos is clashing with another film. Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena. Initially, it was a four way clash between Jagga, Haseena, Saif Ali Khan's Chef and Sridevi's Mom. The latter two have moved whereas Apoorva Lakhia is still sticking with his initial date and is mostly super confident of the content in his film which is a biopic on Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parker's life. Our point is why would Disney deliberately clash with another film, especially when there's no holiday advantage to the date? It seems like walking into a volcano. We explain why in our next point.
Budget recovery Ka Kya?
Haseena is made on a moderate budget, like most other usual Bollywood films starring younger actors. Whereas Jagga has been mounted on a huge scale. And just like Bombay Velvet, this film too has a little negative buzz because of the several reshoots and delays. But the film's trailer looks way more promising than BV. Hence, our question to the producers. When you have put in so much time and money, and blood and sweat to this project, why waste it by releasing a on a non holiday, clashing with another film (big or small doesn't matter) knowing that it will somehow eat into your film's business? That is a classic foolish move. The budget for Jagga stands at over Rs 120 crore and everyone is aware of it. Recovering that much money is difficult but Haseena might just put a huge dent on its already rocky confidence of the film being a box office success. Even a loss of Rs 20 crore for the clash will mean way more to Jagga than to Haseena.
Nobody cares that much anymore!
The film has been postponed several times already. So if this hurried release is because of that, then we hope the makers reconsider their decision. After all, in the end, the content is king and if the audiences get a good film, they will lap it up. The delays and the change of release dates won't matter then. And anyway, everyone has gotten used to it now so it isn't really that big a deal.
