Many tabloids today make use of titillating and hugely offensive pictures in order to grab headlines and garner audience interest. A leading daily recently posted a video using some extremely distasteful pictures of female actors, in turn embarrassing them. Disrespectful and obnoxious as it could be, the daily seems to have taken on the wrong woman this time. The woman in case being youth icon Deepika Padukone. The feisty young actor took to the microblogging site Twitter to protest against the distasteful pictures. Fuming, Deepika said that the daily shouldn't talk about women empowerment when they can't respect women.
What followed was a national uproar on the social media where people started a protest against the leading daily for their blatant insensitivity. The daily was then forced to pull down the video, but their callousness was evident from the way they followed up their utterly distasteful manoeuvre with a rather casual tweet. By trying to lighten the situation by calling it a 'compliment', the leading daily in turn aggravated their own misery.
It is not just Deepika's fans or ordinary Twitter users. The Bollywood fraternity has stood rock solid behind the actor as well. Most Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to pledge their support for the protesting actor. Here are some of the celebrity reactions.
