Running closer to being fully operational, the Aqua Line of the Delhi Metro that will connect Greater Noida and Noida is likely to begin in April. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently conducted a second trial run for the train after a gap of one month.

The rail plied at a speed of 30 km/hr for the second trial run between Greater Noida Metro depot and Alpha II station constructed near Sector Delta. The train then returned to its destination from where it started - the depot station.

The first official test run of the 29.7-km long corridor was held on January 2 when it covered a distance of around one kilometre to the main depot. Once functional, the Aqua Metro will run at a speed of 149 km/hour, covering as many as 21 stations along the route.

According to the sources, most of the work of Aqua corridor is near completion. For instance, 90 per cent tracks have been laid and signalling work too is 65 per cent complete. Sources stated that power shortage is the only glitch that the Metro on this route is facing, which is affecting its test runs from chugging full throttle. However, the officials are hopeful of having sufficient power for the train by mid-February.

The Aqua Line will ease the connectivity between Greater Noida and Noida, connecting the peripheral areas of former with the main city. A total of 19 trains will chug on the corridor covering areas like Sector 71, 83, 101, 75, 50, Dadri Road, Pari Chowk, Alpha 1, Alpha 2, among others. The DMRC also plans to integrate Aqua with Blue Line extension through an interchange at Sector 52 of the Noida City Centre to Sector 62 Metro corridor, eventually with the recently launched Magenta line that runs from Botanical Garden and will reach up to Janakpuri. This will also ease the travel woes of Delhi-NCR commuters.
