The Delhi Metro has once again extended the deadline for Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri Metro for use, to September now. This part of the Pink Line was scheduled to be opened in August as per a previous plan. It is, however, likely to become operational for commercial use by mid-September only.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has not been able to finish trial runs on the 17.8-kilometre long route between Shiv Vihar and Trilokpuri. According to official sources, the trial runs will be complete by month-end and it is only after this that the DMRC can invite the Commissioner for Rail Safety (CMRS) for the safety inspection. However, there are still a few steps that the rail body has to complete before approaching the CMRS including getting various clearances and submitting documents and reports to the CMRS. The Metro will be thrown open to the public only after it is given a green signal in terms of security.

This section will ease connectivity between North East Delhi and South Delhi by connecting Shiv Vihar and Lajpat Nagar. The Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri section will have 15 stations that will include Shiv Vihar, Johri Enclave, Gokulpuri, Maujpur, Jaffrabad, Welcome, East Azad Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Karkardooma Court, Karkardooma, Anand Vihar, IP Extension, Vinod Nagar, Vinod Nagar East, Trilokpuri. This part of Pink Line will also provide three interchange stations at Welcome, Karkardooma Court and Anand Vihar.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the DMRC started operations on the over 8 km-long South Campus-Lajpat Nagar section of the Pink Line, touted as "corridor for shoppers". This segment connects four major markets at -- Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar (Central Market). This stretch is part of the 59 km-long Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor (Pink Line) which falls under the Phase-III network of the DMRC.

The 8.10 km-long Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus-Lajpat Nagar section has six stations, including interchange facilities at INA (with Yellow Line) and Lajpat Nagar (Violet Line).
