Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga bids farewell to Test cricket

Wanindu Hasaranga, the seasoned cricketer of Sri Lanka, declared his retirement from Test cricket on Tuesday, bringing a long and illustrious 26-year journey to a close. In a unanimous accord, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) organization gracefully acknowledged his resolute choice.

CEO of SLC, Ashley Dsilva, expressed unwavering support for Hasaranga's decision, recognizing its authenticity and underlining their confidence in his pivotal role in the forthcoming white-ball initiatives. Dsilva affirmed that Hasaranga's involvement in the white-ball programming would continue to thrive, evolving under his influence.

Hasaranga's initiation into test cricket transpired in the captivating confines of Centurion in 2020. His tenure encompassed three additional test series, with his final appearance taking place in 2021 against Bangladesh in Pallekelle. During his time in the whites, he managed to secure four wickets through his mesmerizing leg-spin technique.

Though the curtains have drawn on his test journey, Hasaranga's prominence in Sri Lanka's white-ball cricket remains unassailable. As a proficient lower-order batsman and the flagbearer of spin bowling, he exerts a substantial impact.

His statistics stand as a testament to his prowess: 67 wickets and an aggregate of 832 runs from 40 ODIs. Furthermore,with a remarkable presence in T20 series worldwide. His record boasts an impressive 91 wickets in 58 T20s, accompanied by a tally of 533 runs, which includes a noteworthy half-century.
