Team India's tour of South Africa is set to be under the cosh due to the current coronavirus pandemic situation across the globe.

The Men In Blue are scheduled to take on South Africa for in a three-match T20 series later in August this year.

However, according to a BCCI official, the cricketers will have to practice enough before travelling to other countries to play a match.

The official also pointed out how Indian players last took part in a competitive match back in March (during series against New Zealand) and haven't played since then.

"See, this is not really possible. Fitness training is one thing and training with the bat and ball is a completely different thing. We have guys who haven’t touched a bat or ball in a training environment in the last 50-60 days. How do you expect them to go out and play international matches?" the BCCI official said.

"Yes, they have been doing their best to keep their fitness level up to the mark set by our trainers, but batting and bowling sessions will be needed," the official further added.

The official also claimed that the board will go ahead with the bilateral series but the tour of South Africa right now is looking highly unlikely to happen.

"Yes, like we have said before, the BCCI will honour all its bilateral commitments and if not currently, then as is suitable to both parties involved. But a series in South Africa in August is quite difficult," the official claimed.

As the coronavirus outbreak has brought all sports activities to a halt, players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the governments all around are urging people to stay at home.
