Wow Air offers low-cost flights via its hub in Reykjavik and would provide the cheapest best option available to passengers traveling from India to North America’s eastern seaboard.
Wow Air’s tickets on Airbus SE A330neo aircraft will be priced at half of what full-service carriers like major players in the market like Emirates Airline offer. Addressing the doubts that whether the low prices are here to stay, Chief Executive Officer Skuli Mogensen assured that these fares aren’t just an introductory offer.
“If you look at flights from India to North America, they actually go directly above Iceland,” Mogensen said. “So Iceland is the perfect hub for India to North America traffic. It has a superior connecting time than what people currently use -- London, Dubai, Frankfurt or Amsterdam.”
A Wow Air flight will take off from Delhi in morning hours and will take about 11 hours to reach Reykjavic. From there it will take another six hours to reach Washington after a two and a half hour layover.
However, it should be noted that these ultra low fares will come without all the luxuries which you get otherwise in a long-haul travel. For example, if you are looking to have a drink or want to eat something, you have to shell out extra money from your pocket.
A cup of coffee or tea can be bought for $2.71 and a medium-sized chicken sandwich for $10.49. Also, Wow flyers will have to travel really light as for anything beside one piece of small carry-on bag the airline will charge you extra.
“Our target segment is a customer for whom it is not acceptable to waste money,” Mogensen said.
Wow Air will offer connections to 15 North American cities including Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco from India, apart from connecting flights to European cities.
