After Jan Koum has announced his resignation from the messaging app WhatsApp, hunt for the new CEO has begun. Now, if reports are to be believed, WhatsApp's Business Executive Neeraj Arora has been among the shortlisted candidates for the top job.
WhatsApp's Jan Koum’s announcement came after he reportedly had disagreements with the message app's parent firm Facebook over privacy.
"It's been almost a decade since Brian and I started WhatsApp, and it's been an amazing journey with some of the best people," Mr Koum said in a post on his Facebook page referring to co-founder Brian Acton. "But it is time for me to move on."
But as the speculations rife about the new CEO, let us tell you the five facts about Neeraj Vohra who could be the new bossman of WhatsApp:
1. Neeraj Arora is an IIT Delhi, ISB graduate who has previously worked with top internet firms including Paytm and Google.
2. Neeraj Arora has worked as the Corporate Development Manager at Google for three years after which he had been promoted to the role of a senior member of the Corporate Development Team where he served for a year.
He was one of the Board of Directors at Vijay Shekhar Sharma-led PayTm.
3. If Neeraj Arora's name could be finalized, he would join the league of Indian-origin CEO's of Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.
4. Neeraj Arora has joined the WhatsApp in 2011.
5. Neeraj Arora as mentioned above, has a B Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Arora did his MBA in Finance and Strategy from Indian School of Business.
Earlier, Jan koum's announced his resignation through a Facebook post. Replying to Koum's post, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in comments section wrote, "Jan: I will miss working so closely with you. I'm grateful for everything you've done to help connect the world, and for everything you've taught me, including about encryption and its ability to take power from centralized systems and put it back in people's hands. Those values will always be at the heart of WhatsApp".
Facebook's COO Sheryl Sandberg also commented, "Jan, the work you've done building WhatsApp has connected so many people around the world. I’m grateful to have worked with you and I wish you all the best in your next chapter."
Notably, Jan Koum's exit came at a time when Facebook is in the middle of data breach row.
