Employees and officers in public sector banks and members of the United Forum of Bank Unions would go on a two-day strike on August 22 and 23 pressing various demands.

"The government is going ahead with their banking reforms and policies aimed at diluting the public sector banking in India. Banking Laws Amendment Bill is being brought in the Lok Sabha on August 22 despite our protest," C M Baskaran, Convenor, Tamil Nadu UFBU, told reporters here.

Over ten lakh bank employees and officers in public sector, private and foreign banks are expected to go on strike for two days from tomorrow, he said.

Their main demands include alleged arbitrary guidelines on HR issues, alleged unilateral implementation of Khandelwal Committee recommendations, outsourcing of bank jobs, banking reforms and closure of many rural branches.

All India Bank Employees Association,All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, All India Bank Officers Officers Association, Bank Employees Federation of India, India National Bank Employees Federation, Indian National Bank Officers Congress, National Organisation of Bank Workers and National Organisation of Bank Officers are part of the United Forum of Bank Unions.
