'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior': Ajay Devgn's film in hot waters, plea filed in Delhi High Court for Misrepresentation

The film which stars Ajay in the titular character is in the news as a petition has also been sent to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for banning the film for public viewing.

Ajay Devgn's next magnum opus 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' based on the life of a Maratha warrior Subedar Tanhaji Malusare has found itself in hot waters after a plea was filed against it in Delhi High Court for alleged misrepresentation. 

The film which stars Ajay in the titular character is in the news as a petition has also been sent to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for banning the film for public viewing. 

As per reports, the petition states that the lead character in the film Tanhaji is a Kshatriya Mahadeo Koli, however, the film shows him belonging to the Maratha community. The Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Koli Rajput Sangh in their plea demanded the makers of the film to reveal the warriors' "true lineage". The plea further states that the real lineage of Tanhaji is being hidden by the filmmakers for commercial and political gains. 

Tanhaji is the second-period drama in recent times that was mired in controversy as Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon starrer Panipat had the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot intervene who demanded the Censor Board to intervene to settle claims made by the locals, IANS had reported.

The audiences were irked with the film as it allegedly portrayed King Suraj Mal, a Jat ruler from Bharatpur from the 17th century, in a bad light. 

The Chief Minister in his tweet said, "This situation where so many reactions are coming out regarding Panipat should not have come up. Censor Board should intervene in the matter and take cognizance of the same. Distributors should build a dialogue with the Jat community without any delay."

Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior will Ajay and Kajol reuniting on the silver screen after 11 long years. Kajol who was last seen in Dilwale will be seen essaying the role of Savitribai Malusare. The film also stars Saif Ali Khan as the principal antagonist named Uday Bhan. 

Actor Jagapathi Babu plays Shelaar Mama and Sharad Kelkar will essay Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's character in the film which is all set to release on January 10, 2020.
