According to reports, Deepika Padukone was not the first choice of Rohit Shetty for Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express
One of the highest-grossing films of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, Chennai Express, has completed 10 years today (August 9, 2023). The duo impressed everyone with their chemistry, however, do you know Deepika was not the first choice for the film?
Yes, Rohit Shetty first offered the role to another Bollywood actress with whom he had earlier worked together. However, she rejected the offer due to her other work commitments. The actress is none other than Kareena Kapoor Khan. The actress earlier said in an interview, “Rohit really wanted me in Chennai Express but I was busy doing Talaash. So I am fine with that.”
Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan impressed the audience with their chemistry in Om Shanti Om and after 6 years of that film, the duo created magic with their chemistry once again in Chennai Express and broke box office records.
Deepika Padukone essayed the role of Meenalochni "Meenamma" in the movie and Shah Rukh Khan of Rahul who falls in love with her. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the movie revolved around the story of Rahul, a young man, who sets out to immerse his late grandfather's ashes at Rameshwaram. However, when he helps Meena, a runaway bride, board a train, he has to face the ire of her criminal family.
The romantic-action-comedy film broke several box office records and collected Rs 422 crore worldwide at the box office. The movie gives you butterflies, Adrenaline rush during the action scenes and also makes you emotional at times. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone were recently seen together in the actor’s comeback film Pathaan helmed by Siddharth Anand. The movie became the highest-grossing movie of the year and garnered much praise from the audience also.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in the movie Jawan helmed by Atlee which is scheduled to release on September 7. The movie also has Deepika Padukone’s action-packed cameo and fans can’t wait to see it on the big screen. Deepika Padukone is also gearing up for her upcoming movie with Siddharth Anand titled Fighter. She will be seen sharing the screen with Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor in the movie which is slated to release next year.
