The tsunami called Jawan has swept away every box office record in its path. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has seen unprecedented response at the ticket window in its four-day extended opening weekend, minting over an astonishing Rs 500 crore. The figure is not just the highest for a Hindi film in its first four days but one of the highest for any Indian film ever.

Jawan had started on a smashing note, minting Rs 74 crore net in India and Rs 129 crore gross worldwide on its opening day. The film has since then gone strength to strength, breaking that single-day earning record twice more. On Sunday, Jawan earned Rs 81 crore net in India, including an astonishing Rs 72 crore in Hindi alone. This takes Jawan’s extended opening weekend domestic haul to Rs 287 crore, once again the all-time highest for a Bollywood movie, beating Shah Rukh’s own Pathaan by Rs 4 crore.

What is a promising sign for Jawan is its strong showing in the south, particularly in the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions. The film has netted a combined Rs 35 crore in these two languages in India in its first four days. In comparison, Pathaan had not even breached the Rs 15 crore mark with its dubbed versions in the same time period. Of course this collection is largely due to the popularity of director Atlee as well as Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi down south.

Pathaan has also done exceedingly well overseas, minting over $20 million worldwide in its first four days, taking its worldwide gross to an astonishing Rs 530 crore. This is the second highest opening weekend collection for a Bollywood film behind Pathaan, which had earned Rs 542 crore in its five-day weekend. That Jawan managed to almost surpass it in just four days is an astonishing feat.

Jawan is now already the fourth highest grossing Indian film of 2023 and should be at number 2 (surpassing Jailer and Gadar 2) over the next three day. Then it will be a clear run to Pathaan’s Rs 1050 crore mark, which should not be a distance too far for Shah Rukh’s film.
