Taking a dig on how we are driven by technology, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Tuesday told convocating students of Karnavati university to use technology while not letting technology use them. The spiritual guru conferred degrees to 102 students of Karnavati university at its first convocation.

Addressing one of the questions of the students on technology, Ravi Shankar said, "Technology is to bring you comfort. Meditation also is a technology that brings you inner comfort. Technology is not anti-spiritual but it is upto you how to use it. If you are obsessed with it, it takes a toll on health. You must understand that you want to use technology for your comfort. Use it but do not let it use you."

He added, "At Art of Living, young people are developing a technology called 'Elements', which will be launched in 2019. It is one platform that would have Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, etc and using it, our data will remain in India. At present, our data is going to America."

Talking about life, he told the students that the exam for real life will start now. "Getting a degree is like an entrance exam of life. Success depends on communication. Putting emphasize on jobs, he asked the students to take up a job at least for a year or two before embarking upon the journey of entrepreneurship.

Interestingly, approving of a mischievous nature, he gave Lord Krishna's example and said, "Do not lose the spirit of enthusiasm. You should be mischievous all throughout without hurting anyone. Lord Krishna is known for his mischief but he did not cause hurt to anyone.

As graduates, you cannot afford to lose your temper or your mood. If you understand both these feelings, only then you are educated. Meditation is mental hygiene, he said.

For those who deal with numbers in their profession, Ravi Shankar advised listening to music for 30 minutes a day. He said, "While noting numbers and logical explanation, the left brain remains overactive. Listening to music will help right brain remain active and you will find the right kind of balance."

Addressing a question on materialism vs spirituality, he said, "Being fashionable does not make you less spiritual. Spirit loves fashion, it will not stop you from being spiritual. Have a compassionate heart, and if you do not do what people do to you, you are spiritual", he concluded.
