Seven new districts as Gujarat's I-Day gift

Seven new districts in Gujarat will formally come into existence from August 15, the state government said on Tuesday. They are Aravalli, Gir Somnath, Botad, Chhota Udepur, Mahisagar, Morbi and Devbhoomi Dwarka, taking the existing number to 33.

“The creation of new districts is aimed at decentralising administration for faster and efficient delivery of services,” the government said in a statement.

Aravalli district carved out of Sabarkantha will have Modasa
as its headquarter, Gir Somnath out of Junagadh with Veraval as HQ, Botad from Bhavnagar & Ahmedabad, and Chhota Udepur from Vadodara. Likewise, Mahisagar district has been created from Panchmahals & Kheda, Morbi from Rajkot, Surendranagar & Jamnagar, and Dwarka district from Jamnagar.

The government said that the process to create new talukas is also in progress, and would be completed soon.

The government said that collectors, DDOs and SPs of districts from which the new districts are being carved out will temporarily handle responsibilities for the new districts too. It added that budgetary provisions will be made for the office buildings, staff, furniture, and other requirements of the new districts.
