Following an earlier instruction of the Gujarat High Court, a report pointing out the poor state of infrastructure in shelters homes operated by the AMC was submitted before the court on Wednesday. The report prepared by advocate KR Koshti was submitted based on his thorough inspection of two shelter homes in the city at Shahpur-Dudheshwar and Ghatlodiya.

The report provides that the shelter homes are not operated properly, with grossly inadequate facilities forcing the urban homeless to stay in an inhuman condition. Koshti has submitted that both the shelter homes in the city have an inadequate number of toilets as compared to their capacity as well as occupancy. Also, the blankets and sleeping mats are filthy and unsuitable for human use. The report also provides that rather than the facilities required by the homeless people staying in the shelter homes, unnecessary items which cannot be used by them have been provided by the municipal corporation. Exemplifying, the report provides that utensils and vessels remain in packed condition because the same cannot be used for cooking without a gas connection, potable water, and required food grains for cooking.
